New to BSU - Student
Follow these step-by-step instructions for getting setup with IT at BSU.
1. Obtain your InfoBear (Banner) ID#
A InfoBear (Banner) ID is a unique number assigned to each student. The Banner ID replaces the social security number as a unique identifier. Banner is a higher education software system. Banner is part of all university functions including, human resources, admissions and finance. Banner IDs are assigned and mailed to each student in their admissions packet.
2. BSU Notebook (laptop) Computer Requirement
Bridgewater State University requires all full-time undergraduate students to have notebook computers. Details regarding this requirement, including recommended specs, support, wireless printing and frequently asked questions my be found on the Student Notebook page.
Your BSU User Account provides you with access to campus computers, BSU email account, wireless network, and the internal BSU website (Intranet) and more.
Office 365 provide BSU students free hosted communications and collaboration services. Although Microsoft hosts the email, Bridgewater State University maintains control.
Your email account is automatically created within one business day of claiming your BSU User Account. You may access your student email account by visiting the Student Portal. Click the email icon on the left menu.
5. Access your Blackboard Learning System account
The Blackboard Learning Management System provides Faculty and Students with secure web site space for document distribution, course communication, and other related course activities. Blackboard accounts for all students are automatically created upon completion of course registration. Students may access their Blackboard account via the Blackboard link located on the Student Portal using your BSU username and password (the same
account information you use to log into BSU email and campus computers).
In an emergency, Bridgewater State University sends emergency alerts to anyone with a BSU e-mail account electronically. In addition, BSU has a system to rapidly communicate with students, faculty, and staff by sending a voice message and instant text message. While the system is active, it is only as good as the information it contains. This is where we need your help!
In order to receive emergency text messages and voice mail alerts, you must provide cellular phone information. Please login to INFOBEAR and update your contact information and security question/answer. We will only contact you through the system in the event of an emergency. Questions – check out our Emergency Communications page for more information.
8. Download the BSU Mobile App
