1.What is System Center Endpoint Protection?

System Center Endpoint Protection provides protection against malware, spyware, rootkits, and threats such as viruses, worms, and Trojan horses.

2.Do I need to be online for System Center Endpoint Protection to work?

Yes. In order to install and receive updates you need an active Internet connection.

3.What executable will run as part of Endpoint?

The System Center Endpoint Anti-malware Service is MsMpeng.exe. The System Center Endpoint State Assessment Service is FcsSas.exe. The Endpoint UI is MSASCui.exe. The domain computers will have two additional running executables for MOM agent MOMHost.exe and MOMService.exe

4.Which Operating Systems do System Center Endpoint Protection support?

System Center Endpoint Protection is designed to protect Domain manage workstations Windows Operating Systems (Windows 7, Windows 8, and Windows Servers)
Note: Mac OS is not supported

5. I have an operational Antivirus solution on my computer, should I upgrade to System Center Endpoint Protection?

No, you do not have to. As long, your antivirus is current and if you use the campus wireless network, our network access and compliance system needs to recognize it. Domain managed Workstations will automatically receive System Center Endpoint Protection.

Microsoft will update as needed.

7. Where System Center Endpoint Protection will be installed?

System Center Endpoint Protection is a component of System Center Configuration Manager 2012, and it is installed in “C:\Program Files\Microsoft Security Client”

8. System Center Endpoint Protection looks like Windows Defender Application and Microsoft Forefront. What is the difference?

System Center Endpoint Protection builds on top of the Defender UI and provides Anti-Virus capabilities in addition to the Anti-Spyware with additional features.

9. How does System Center Endpoint work on workstations/laptops that are not part of a domain environment?

Unmanaged computers will not have System Center Endpoint Protection installed. Security Team will recommend one antivirus/spyware software for personal computer.

10. What is the difference of a quick scan and full scan?

A quick scan checks the places on your computer that malware is most likely to reside. A full scan will check all files on your hard disk and all programs currently running.

11. How do you receive current antivirus and spyware definitions updates?

From home, the computer will receive definition updates directly from Microsoft Update. Alternatively, if you want to update, you may click “Update” in the client as seen below. The domain computers will receive update from our internal server or Microsoft update.

12. What is the latest number of Antivirus and Spyware definitions?

To find out visit this website under Manually Download the Latest Updates: https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/wdsi/definitions​​​. Compare the Antivirus and Antispyware definition version number with your current System Center Endpoint Status session under Antivirus and Antispyware definitions version as seen in the image below:

13. How do I force an update?

Start Internet Explorer Click the menu Safety and select Windows Update.

14. How will I know if Endpoint is out of date?

When opening the program, you will see an orange warning regarding the PC being unprotected. To resolve this, ensure the machine has an active connection, then hit “Update”. The following image is an example of this scenario:

15. What if the System Center Endpoint icon is red instead of green? (Ex: red icon)

System Center Endpoint Agent detected a virus or other malware. Double click the red icon and allow it to remove the threat.

16. What does the icon appear as when working normally?

System Center Endpoint should have a green shield icon as seen below:

17. How do I learn about this product and change its configuration?

Clicking the “?” will provide a wealth of information. Please note that the configuration of BSU owned computers is handled by IT and cannot be changed by the user.

System Center Endpoint Protection component is automatically available when System Center Configuration Manager 2012 client is installed on a workstation.

20. Why IT is changing the antivirus program for the manage workstation?

Microsoft has announced the end of support for Microsoft Forefront Client Security to be July 14, 2015.
